FARGO — The head of North Dakota public schools is wrapping up his statewide tour of school districts for the academic year, landing in Fargo on his second-to-last stop.

Levi Bachmeier, state superintendent of public instruction, spent Wednesday, May 13, at Fargo Public Schools, visiting Carl Ben Eielson Middle School, Fargo South High School and Lewis & Clark Elementary before wrapping up the day at Explorer Academy, a K-8 special education program.

He’s now been to more than 50 of the state’s 167 school districts, with his last visit scheduled for Friday at the Finley-Sharon Public School.

“The goal was to get north of 50 before the school year let out, but (for) some districts … this is their last week,” Bachmeier said, indicating tours will pause and resume in the fall.

Bachmeier said he’s logged more than 25,000 miles on the road since starting the job.

I think I've almost hit all four corners, up to Divide County by Crosby, the little district of Fairmount of less than 100 kids south of Wahpeton, and countless districts in between.
